The creative director of Celine, Hedi Slimane, has announced a solo show, coming in the form of an all-encompassing sound and visual experience, at the Almine Rech Gallery in Shanghai this month.
The exhibit titled Sun of Sound is intended to focus on Slimane’s work in the music scene. In addition to his extensive influence in the fashion industry and his synonymous slim-cut silhouette, he has always focused on the representation of youth in his visual work as well as reinvented the way musicians and bands are documented in the current era.
The gallery’s statement characterizes his still-life photographs as “silent expressions of youth,” as he’s known for his minimalistic and black-and-white aesthetic. Sun of Sound is, at its core, a representation of some of his most iconic portraits of musicians, including Amy Winehouse, Lou Reed, Keith Richards and Brian Wilson.
His first solo exhibit since 2014, and the first in China, will also feature an immersive sound installation, which highlights Slimane’s exploration of music.
